DRENCHED
not everything is a game
Written by Gary Young Directed by Mark Murphy
A tale of murder, obsession, sexual jealousy and rain.
In a darkly gothic tale the story of a woman's past slowly unwinds itself. As she manifests her mother's voice and father's persona, a tangled blend of memories draws back onto a dark nightmare of her childhood. Vivid revelations and disturbing moments of her teenage years are relived while her mother and father play their thrilling sex games downstairs.
Facts, memories, thoughts and deeds are hidden in our narrator's emotional downpour, and as the intense pressure builds and builds to a shocking conclusion, we are drawn into the nightmarish reality of her life.
DRENCHED is an intense, dramatic and darkly-humorous one-woman theatre show incorporating water in its myriad forms.
DRENCHED is the second collaboration between award-winning director Mark Murphy and BOILERHOUSE. As founder and director of VTOL Dance Company, Mark directed seven major shows between 1991and 2001 - all touring extensively throughout the UK and Europe. He recently was filmmaker and movement director for JULIUS CAESAR with the RSC and worked with Legs on the Wall in Sydney. Mark is produced by FUEL.
"The most exciting marriage of film and dance theatre that I have ever seen... a vastly ambitious piece that delivers on every level. Breathtaking." THE TIMES (On Mark Murphy's 'Without Trace' for VTOL Dance Company)
DRENCHED also continues the immensely successful relationship between the company and acclaimed writer Gary Young.
"One of the darkest, most dramatic and most haunting journeys ever portrayed in Scottish theatre... revelling in the startling lyrical quality of Gary Young's script."
Joyce McMillan, THE SCOTSMAN (on our 2002 production of RUNNING GIRL)
